The lecture will introduce the possibility of interacting with the computer directly by thought, using brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), and review previous work in which we integrated an electroencephalogram (EEG)-based brain-computer interface with virtual reality and current work based on real-time functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). It will also discuss the potential implications of the BCI paradigm on society in a wider cultural and historic context.
